Thailand rings up 777, but why no fanfare?
The Tourism and Sports Ministry has offered a welcome boost to tourism in the high season with its World Heritage Marathon runs for Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Khao Yai, which has opened up new experiences of old sights for visitors.
However, I suggest that the campaign could be extended beyond sport by highlighting the significance of the figure 777 – the number of years since Thai history began with the founding of the Sukhothai Kingdom in 1238.
This could also be an occasion for celebration among Thais, as a campaign that promotes both national pride and tourism.
