Islamic terrorism stems from jihad imperative in Islamic theology, not the West

Re: "Roots of ISIS lie in Washington, not Islam", Letters, November 27.

In claiming that the Bible promotes as much violence as Islam or more, Eric Bahrt conveniently forgets that Christianity has had an Enlightenment, a Reformation and a Renaissance. Islam has not and is still attempting to drag its often horrible 7th century beliefs into the 21st century.
He also forgets that the violence of the Bible is directed mainly against local tribes and unlike the violence promoted in the Koran is not open-ended and continuing. I wonder whom or what Muslims and their defenders blame for violence and jihad long before there was an Israel or a USA? The simple truth is that global Islamic terrorism today arises from the jihad imperative within Islamic theology, not from anything the West has done.
