It wasn't US envoy's criticism of law that caused anger

It wasn't US envoy's criticism of law that caused anger

Re: "US envoy right to speak out about lese majeste", Letters, December 1.

First, I want to stress that I have nothing against Burin Kantabutra. However, in his latest letter, Burin suggests that some Thais have criticised the US ambassador for saying, “No one should be jailed on lese majeste charges.” He says this contradicts Thailand’s commitment to the UN on human rights and also His Majesty the King’s stated wish that such prisoners be forgiven and pardoned.
However, I can assure Burin that, if this were the only thing the US envoy had said, no Thai would have hit the roof and headed out onto the streets to protest.
If my father was accused of being a two-timer, a hypocrite and a bully and the accusations were false and unfair in my eyes, should I sit still and do nothing? My answer to you, sir, is “no”. Ask any fair-minded Thai and you will get the same answer
