Unfair criticism over domestic abuse letter

Nat Yogachandra’s letter of January 12, “What to do about growing problem of domestic violence” was unfairly ridiculed and trampled on by John Arnone in the name of “freedom”.

The revelation of 85 per cent school children having witnessed abuses at home is shocking and heartless for anyone to ignore. John Arnone’s belief in 100-per-cent freedom from laws and government interventions is understandable among a few but should not be lauded in damning the well-intended letter from this Thai writer who was alarmed by this social problem. Indeed, it is noble of this Thai to bring us to this attention.
The words of Father Theodore Hesburgh of University of Notre Dame are appropriate that “The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother”. Pope John XXIII said even better: “It is easier for a father to have children than for children to have a real father.”
