Keep thinking and asking

Keep thinking and asking

Ye Olde Pedant, a Senior Sage, wrote (on Sept 16) an important observation about letter writers to this page.

Upon arrival in Bangkok, I wrote and got published for a year or so in The Nation and Post. But as my personality altered under the influence of Thai culture, I realised this was a futile exercise, a “sound and fury signifying .. ?” sort of thing.
To speak negatively or criticise while knowing it will accomplish no change, is to speak to your own ignorance of this culture, and indeed, yourself; simply futile and arrogant in the Thai view.
After 13 years employment under a Work Permit, I chose to live out my life here; Retirement Visa time. I started studying gerontology as hobby No-1. Now, 14 years later, I start my day with a smoothy containing 12 supplements, go to my beautiful club, swim 2km, read both English papers, then languish in the pleasures of home and family. Some letter writers make a real contribution. They have specific knowledge of a problem, a doable solution and most importantly, a lifelong understanding of Thai history and culture. About Thailand; the more I learn, the less I know.
Thanks, Ye Olde Pedant, keep thinking and asking.
