 Kitchens with a cutting edge

You won’t want to leave the stove with the latest range of quality cookware and cutlery from Zwilling JA Henckels

COOKING IS EASIER and far more fun thanks to renowned German brand Zwilling J A Henckels, which recently converted its new outlet at Gaysorn shopping mall into a kitchen studio, offering professional and amateur chefs the very latest in cutting- edge cutlery and state-of-the-art cookware.
In 1731, Peter Henckels registered the now world-famous Zwilling as a trademark with the Cutler’s Guild of Solingen, thereby laying the foundation for an international company that opened its overseas branches in New York, Vienna and Copenhagen between 1883 and 1897. The brand’s name is a combination of the German word for “twin” and Henckel’s first-born son, Johann Abraham.

Zwilling was first recognised for premium-quality iron knives at the World Fairs in London in 1851 and Paris in 1855. The cookware segment was born in 2008 with the acquisition of upmarket utensil brands Staub and Demeyere from France and Belgium, both famous for their high-quality stainless and cast-iron enamel cookware.
Today the company has 10 subsidiaries producing everything from knives, beauty supplies to kitchen utensils and a distribution network that covers more than 100 countries. In Thailand, it is run by Minor International, which distributes such popular imported brands as Brooks Brothers, Esprit, Gap, Banana Republic, Anello and Radley London.
Situated on the first floor of Gaysorn, Bangkok’s fifth branch opened in August and boasts a multifunctional kitchen, where customers can check out Zwilling’s merchandise and even join a cooking class led by specialists.

“We brought Zwilling to Thailand more than decade ago. Our products are made with rust-resistant stainless steel Number 18/10, which is known for durability. This is the only branch that features a fully equipped kitchen corner and offers exclusive editions of Miyabi knives, Sensation cookware made in Belgium and the Sorrento Plus glass collection. Next year, we’ll be hosting a variety of cooking demonstrations in collaboration with our culinary partners who include Grand Hyatt Erawan, Mugendai Japanese restaurant, Crying Thaiger and ABC Cooking Studio,” says Natcha Athipthanatsakul, senior product manager.

Miyabi 5000 MCD 67 Black knives

The products are divided into five categories: cookware, knives, flatware, kitchen gadgets and manicure equipment. The highlights include an exclusive series of handcrafted Miyabi 5000MCD 67 knives from Japan that bring together Japanese craftsmanship and German engineering, and were developed by Zwilling and veteran chef Rokusaburo Michiba.
Based on the traditional Japanese technique for the making of the Katana samurai sword, the knives have a 132-layered, ice-hardened, micro carbide steel blade in the flower Damascus pattern and a traditional D-shaped handle of black ash wood.

Made with borosilicate glass, which is three times stronger than ordinary glass, the unique Sorrento edition features hand-made double-wall tea glasses and dessert bowls designed by Matteo Thun. They are made using traditional glassblowing techniques, are microwave and dishwasher safe and keep drinks cold or hot for long periods.
The scratch-resistant Sensation cookware is perfect for health-conscious people. Made in Belgium, the pots and pans provide fast heat conduction, meaning that you can cook vegetables in between two to 10 minutes while maintaining their taste and nutritional value.

“The Sensation cookware use less water and time to cook food. This helps vegetables remain rich in vitamins and nutrient. We focus on modern products that are ideal for urban living. Today, people pay more attention to their health and tend to cook at home rather than eat out,” Natcha says.
Staub offers a collection of colourful cast-iron cookware from France.
The store also has a selection of cutting-edge stainless steel manicure kits, premium polishing kits made from ceramic and glass, stainless steel smell remover and cutting boards fashioned from carbonite, bamboo and beech wood.
Zwilling also has branches at K Village, Mega Bangna, Erawan and La Villa Aree.
