How a lamp can morph into a bookshelf and much, much more

WANT TO decorate your home with a Christmas tree and fairy lights but simply don’t have the space? Then turn to new-wave brand Barrel Workshop, which has just introduced the latest in its multi-functional handcrafted wood table lamps and accessories that are perfect for urban living and give off a festive vibe.
Barrel Workshop is owned and run by 27-year-old Nuttapuk Yoadjarust, whose family has been producing wooden sauna units for almost two decades. After graduating with a master’s degree in E-business from the University of Warwick in the UK, Nuttapuk came back to Bangkok and set up his brand online in March.
He spent two months developing his designs, which included the Box Space and Hanging Tree lamps made with imported New Zealand pinewood and adorned with vintage-style Edison light bulbs that doubled as bookshelves and were ideal for small condo rooms.

BOX Space Mini

“I helped my family to promote their saunas by creating a website and Facebook page for them and discovered just how fast Thailand’s e-commerce segment is growing. We live in a digital era where people can find everything on their smartphones. I saw it as a chance to establish my own brand. I want to offer home furnishings that everyone can afford. I use quality New Zealand pinewood and a veteran carpenter team who works for my family so customers can be certain that my lamps are of good quality,” Nuttapuk says.
“I launched my first collection of BOX Space lamps at the shopping fairs hosted by Crystal SB Ratchapruek, K Village and Central World and they were quickly snapped by families and office workers. Pinewood is lightweight and has a unique wood grain, which makes it attractive in any setting.”
Coated with lacquer to protect them from termites, all lamps are equipped with a dimmer and rope-like wire, and are simple enough to match all other furnishings. The newest series includes the Edison Box lamp that is equipped with USB hubs, making it easy to charge your mobile phone.

Smaller but still practical, the Box Space Mini lantern can turn into a bookshelf courtesy of a traditional dovetail joint while Beatle lamp mimics a concert stage and is equipped with four bulbs.

Love to Read

Other functional designs are the Love to Read lamp that can convert into a bookend, a rubber tree USB Clip that looks like a clothes peg, an iPhone charging dock fashioned out of bamboo and metal, and a Card Throne lamp that transforms into a name card holder.

Nuttapuk also offers a collection of customised bamboo wristwatches with a Miyota movement and leather straps, which allow you to screen messages or your portrait on the dial.
“I’m releasing a new edition of mobile phone docks that can double as speakers and pen holders, and jewellery boxes screened with messages soon. My products will be available in Another Story at EmQuartier next year,” he says.
