US Electoral College system balanced biased media

US Electoral College system balanced biased media

Re: “The US system defies reform” (Jan 7).

It is not the electoral system that defies reform, it does not need reforming. The Electoral College is there for a purpose. It is the mainstream media that needs reforming to fulfil its responsibilities to democratic society that allows it its freedom in the first place.
It is undeniable that the US media, during the campaign for the White House, became a propaganda machine favouring the Democrat Party and its nominee. The alleged victims of Trump’s wrongdoings in false reports in The New York Times were actually exposed as false by the alleged “victims” themselves. Two senior members of the Democrat Party were forced to resign due to collusion with CNN to discredit Trump in interviews and debates. The media proved to be not only biased against Trump but actively engaged in promoting the DNC with blatant propaganda. In spite of this media support, Hillary Clinton lost the race due to lack of substance in her campaign. She spent her energy almost solely on attacking her opponent.
It is true that Mrs Clinton gained a majority of votes from the 18-29 years of age (55 per cent) and a slight majority from the 30-44 age group (51 per cent) but from those aged 44 and above, Trump enjoyed the majority (52 per cent). The younger ones, which included the millenials or snowflakes (those born during and since 1985), were influenced by left-wing academia and the inferior federal Common Core system of education. Both these younger groups were most influenced by biased, undemocratic media. They are the generation that seeks “safe spaces” to avoid points of view with which they disagree. They have minds closed to reality, quite unlike their parents. It will be noticed that age and wisdom progressively moved away from Mrs Clinton in favour of Trump.
The older people who’s judgement is very much based on life experience and who carry the greater social responsibility, favoured the pragmatic Trump campaign for change. They were more au fait with Mrs Clinton’s history and the issues of Benghazi and her illegal email server when Secretary of State. The mature Electoral College found in favour of Trump by a landslide of 306 votes to 232.
It would be fair to say that the popular vote, on a level playing field, should perhaps take precedent over the Electoral College, but biased media activity ensured that was not the case. That is exactly why the Electoral College exists and reality has proved the wisdom of the founding fathers once again.
