Mattis did well on his first trip to East Asia 

I agree with your editorial that US Defence Secretary James Mattis has done an excellent job in easing suspense over East Asian security during his visits to South Korea and Japan this week.
Earlier, new US President Trump criticised the two countries for not helping themselves, and that they should develop their own nuclear arsenals.
President Trump’s verbal attacks on Korea and Japan were the result of irresponsibility on the part of a leader of the very country that presided over the creation of the world’s present condition and order, starting from the end of World War 2 about 70 years ago.
American citizens should be thankful that their country still has someone like General James Mattis as its “defsec”.
Meanwhile, they should put some sense into their commander-in-chief: that he has a steep learning curb ahead as far as the responsibility of his country for world peace and friendly coexistence go.
