Respect for Thai officialdom boosted
We are often quick to be critical of anyone who fails to meet standards of good service, especially in government sectors.
Instead, I wish to share my pleasant experience recently at the Board of Investment centre at Chamchuri Square. Our company recently became BOI-certified, and when the visa renewal for my family and I came up in December, I was a little apprehensive about the service levels and quality.
The visa renewal was handled by Police Sub-Lt Nopapanut Kulcharasborom, who was most helpful, polite and understanding. I had forgotten to bring the family’s 90-day report receipts, and volunteered to go back home to get them, but she managed to retrieve the relevant information from her system and print it for us. She saved me the two hours it would have taken to fetch the receipts from home while my family waited.
All through the process I was much impressed by her genuine care in guiding us though the renewal process. Her attitude to work was humbling, and my respect for the BOI, Immigration and the Ministry of Labour is a tad higher as a result.
