Remembering KruAngoon
The Jayawana Foundation and the Pridi Banomyong Institute are marking the centenary of the late Angoon Malik, the founder of the foundation who is fondly remembered for her enormous social contributions and hand-puppet shows for kids.
The event, which takes place on April 5 at the foundation (KruAngoon Malik Garden) on Soi Thonglor 3 between 10.30am and 8pm, will start with a merit-making ceremony and a dharma talk then feature shows by different cultural troupes including northern dance, a performance by Babymime and “Granma Puppet”, a puppet show by the Yayhoon Puppet Theatre. “Granma Puppet” is a co-production of Crescent Moon Theatre and Jayavana Foundation and was created in memory of Angoon in 2001.
There will also be a talk on KruAngoon from the point of view of the young generation featuring guests Ngamsuk Ratanasatien from Mahidol University and Preekamol Chantaranijakorn from Madee Volunteer group and a second session during which artists and those who knew her such as Surachai Jantimatorn and Chaturon Chaisang, will share their memories.
The tribute to KruAngoon will be held around 7.45pm and include a video presentation and a poetry reading by SangdaoSattaman and writer Chamaiporn Sangkrajang.
KruAngoon was well known for helping the poor people and making hand puppets from unused fabric, which she gave to underprivileged kids. She founded the Jayavana foundation and also donated part of her land in Soi Thonglor to the PridiBanomyong Institute. She died in 1990 at the age of 73.
