Prayut should step down if plaque cannot be found

Re: “Outcry after historic plaque goes missing”, The Nation, April 16.

General Prayut Chan-o-cha cannot simply say that, in his capacity as head of the interim government, he has told authorities to search for the missing 1932 Revolution memorial plaque – and leave the matter at that.
Prayut should be reminded that he is where he is today as a result of the 2014 military coup, which was an extraordinary occurrence for a then-democratic Thailand.
This is similar to taking temporary control of a someone else’s house, which has a long history and which you have promised to clean up and then leave.
Trying to change the house in any way – much less rebuild it – is absolutely not an option.
If asked, I would say that Prayut should pledge to step down from his position as prime minister if the iconic Revolution plaque cannot be found by the end of this month.
And that should be final.
