Seamless roaming at your home

Seamless roaming at your home

The new Linksys RE7000 Max-Stream AC1900 Wi-Fi range extender means you'll never be without an Internet connection

THE PERFECT addition to the all-powerful Linksys EA9500 Max-Stream AC5400 wireless router, the brand’s RE7000 mobile-guided range extender will, as the name implies, extend Wi-Fi range throughout your home while retaining the high performance of the wireless connection.
The RE7000 comes with MU-MIMO and Seamless Roaming technologies and is part of Linksys’s Max-Stream series of wireless devices. Linksys says the RE7000 can work with all wi-fi routers to eliminate dead zones and boost coverage up to 900 square metres.
The extender sports dual bands – 5 GHz of wireless AC protocol with a speed of 1,733 Mbps and 2.4 GHz of wireless N protocol with the speed of 300 Mbps.

The RE7000 works best with routers that have MU-MIMO and Seamless Roaming technologies, such as Linksys EA9500 and EA8500.
The Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output technology allows MU-MIMO-supported wireless devices to work without disruption. Moreover, the RE7000 also helps the wireless connection to continue seamlessly when you move from room to room with your smartphone or tablet computer by using the Seamless Roaming technology in the extender and the router.
I tested the RE7000 with Linksys EA9500, both of which support the Seamless Roaming technology. To use the Seamless Roaming, the extender and the router need to use the same SSID (Service Set Identifier) or the name of your router.
The Seamless Roaming technology ensures the devices will be connected to the strongest Wi-Fi signal all the time. This helps prevent the “sticky problem” in which Wi-Fi client devices, such as smart phones and tablets, tend to stay connected to the original access point when you move around until the original access point is out of range. The Seamless Roaming helps your devices to automatically switch to the access point with the best signal.

The RE7000 comes with Linksys Spot Finder Technology that guides you to place the extender in a location for optimal performance and maximum Wi-Fi coverage.
You can use a web browser on your mobile device to access the Spot Finder function by typing http://extender.linksys.com and selecting the Spot Finder. The Spot Finder will analyse the range extender location and tell you if it’s too far, too close or in the right spot. You can then try moving around the extender until the Spot Finder reports that it is at the optimal location.
The RE7000 comes in a compact size and it is easy to set up. During the test, I simply plugged it into the wall then pressed WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button on the RE7000 and on the EA9500 to sync it with the EA9500 router. I had to repeat the process for the 5 GHz connection after the first connection was made with the 2.4 GHz connection.
I found during the test that my notebook on the second floor switched to the RE7000 automatically, thanks to the Seamless Roaming. Without the RE7000, my notebook connection was reporting a signal; strength of three out of 5.
The RE7000 also comes with a gigabit LAN port, which is very useful for a device that needs wired Internet connection, such as an IPTV box with a LAN port.
I tested it by connecting the RE7000’s gigabit port to TrueTV box and I managed to stream Full HD movies to a TV on the second floor fluidly without hiccup.
Linksys RE7000 has a suggested retail price of Bt5,290.
