Siriraj Hospital unveils fund-raising app

Mahidol University’s Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, in collaboration with digital-media firm Next Cube, has launched a “70 Million Thailand” mobile application and website to raise money for construction of the Navamintra Bophit 84th Birthday Anniversary Building.

The 25-storey building is expected to open next year on a 70,000-square-metre site with 376 beds for underprivileged patients.

“The construction budget is Bt5 billion, not counting the cost of buying medical equipment,” says Dr Prasit Watanapha, dean of the faculty.

“The app ‘70millionthailand’ and www.70MillionThailand.org will play an important role in soliciting donations for patients in need.”

The building, already under construction, was named by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol and is in accord with his wish that all people have the chance to maintain good health, Prasit says.

“What’s important here is the power of the Thai people to help each other complete this building,” says Dr Naris Kitnarong, deputy dean. “Once it’s finished, I believe, all Thais will feel proud to have taken part.”

Next Cube managing director Ranjira Kongsawat explained that the website and app would allow Thais around to participate in the fund-raising. “They make it very easy to make a donation.”

Donations, which can be as little as Bt1, are automatically registered to users of the app and website who sign up and log in. Donations can also be made at special kiosks set up at Central stores, government offices and airports.

Actor-TV host Gun Kantathaworn is an ambassador for the project.

“It’s so convenient to make a donation this way,” he says. “I’m looking forward to seeing an endless expression of generosity by all Thai people.”
