Pirates thriving while billions being spent on subs, aircraft carriers
The report headlined “Pirate heist” on Page 2 of Tuesday’s Nation left me scratching my head.
Why do we (Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia) invest so much of our national budgets in our navies and conduct regular military exercises such as Cobra Gold, to prepare for what is in fact a fake threat (inter-state war), while our commercial vessels are still being robbed by pirates?
Surely the Thai government could better arrange the allocation of our military budget and operations so as to free our seas of the menace of pirates.
