Eating eggs is not the moral dilemma

Eating eggs is not the moral dilemma

Re: “Why don’t vegans eat eggs”, Letters, August 8.

It may surprise Thomas Turk to know that I don’t think it’s immoral to eat eggs if the chickens they come from are free-range and treated well.
The problem is that 95-98 per cent of chickens are factory-farmed. And even if the chickens are free-range (which just means they’re outdoors), it doesn’t necessarily mean they are treated well.
And judging by Turk’s appalling lack of compassion towards animals, I doubt he makes any effort to be certain the eggs he eats came from chickens that were treated humanely. (I urge readers to google “This is free range/ Peta UK” and then tell me if you still think Thomas Turk has any human kindness at all.
As for the health issue, if he wants to continue to argue that food loaded with cholesterol and saturated fat is good for you, there is no longer any point in debating him. In the battle of the minds, he is defenceless.
