Sony Thailand eyes big year with ‘Emoji’, ‘Blade Runner’

Sony Pictures Studio has set up Sony Pictures Entertainment affiliates in Thailand and two other Southeast Asia nations and an office in Bangkok’s Chamchuri Square.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” went massive last July, earning Bt265 million, the biggest take in the Spider-Man franchise and topping a Sony Pictures record held by the disaster movie “2012”.
With 19 more big-name movies coming out through 2017, Sony Pictures Thailand has targeted box-office sales of Bt800 million.
Still to come are “The Dark Tower”, the animated “Emoji Movie”, the remake of 1990 hit “Flatliners” and “Blade Runner 2049”, plus the year-closing “Jumanji : Welcome to the Jungle” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
The new company has also expanded its distribution network to include independent films in cooperation with House RCA cinema. The pairing had a major success with “T2: Trainspotting” and “29th Century Woman”.
Being shown soon at House RCA are “Brigsby Bear” and “Call Me by Your Name”.
