Thailand showcases naval power

The Royal Thai Navy is hosting the International Fleet Review 2017 to mark Asean’s 50th anniversary and is also bringing the “Ship Tech IV Exhibition: Ship Technology for the Next Decade” to the Peach Convention Centre of the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel in Pattaya from November 13 to 22.

“The world keeps an eye on the Asean economy due to its dramatic growth and strong economic power. Thailand has considerable strengths in the economy as it serves as the access point to all regions. The exhibition offers an opportunity to get to know Thailand and its powerful ship technology, which will play an important role in supporting the development of the Eastern Economic Corridor and preventing the exploitation of natural resources in Thai waters,” said Admiral Paladej Charoenpool, deputy commander-in-chief of the RTN.

“This event brings together the largest collection of local and international modern ship technology, including the latest combat systems with high-performance machinery and equipment. The exhibition will underline the Royal Thai Army’s growing ability to protect the country and serve as an international platform for exchanging knowledge, technology and investment ideas regarding the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), business matching, trade collaboration and joint venture,” added Rear Admiral Samarom Chansuwan, director general of Engineering Department of Royal Thai Naval Dockyard Department.

More than 40 modern warships and 10,000 crew members from 30 countries are joining the historic fleet to showcase the Royal Thai Army’s future ship technology, armament and security systems, which positions the Royal Thai Army at the forefront of the regional fleets.

“Pattaya is striving towards becoming the economic hub and it requires high-standard sustainable tourism, which means that the urban development must address all economic, social, infrastructure and environmental dimensions. Particularly, economy and tourism are intrinsically linked so it is important to develop mutual understanding among the business participants in order to seed investment initiatives,” said Chonburi Deputy Governor Chaichan Aiemjaroen.

There will also be a special lecture series on investing in the economic corridor as part of Thailand 4.0. Speakers include Deputy Prime Minister Dr Somkid Jatusripitak, Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of Charoen Pokphand Group, Industry Minister Dr Uttama Savayana, Deputy Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong and Dr Kanit Sangsubhan, secretary-general of the EEC Office and a dinner talk by Vikrom Kromadit, CEO of Amata Corporation.

Other activities include a Super Yacht Show, the International Fleet Review, world-class boxing matches, Chang Music Connection Concert, traditional boat chanting and a food truck caravan.
