American ‘anti-racism’ protests are attacking foundation of racial equality

Re: “Black players heroes for not forgetting others”, Have Your Say, October 1.

A county’s national flag and its anthem are symbolic of all the country stands for. To disrespect either is to insult the country and its constitution. With a total lack of respect, the football players kneeling to the national anthem in the US are insulting the 1st Amendment and the whole constitution. They are attacking the very piece of legislation that affords them their liberty lifestyle and their freedom of expression. To insult the country that has fought for its freedom at the cost of millions of lives, the freedom they now enjoy, is not heroic. It is dumb and ignorant. They are attempting to kill the goose that laid their golden egg. Their Black Lives Matter-style protest is a nonsense. Most blacks are killed by civilian blacks not white police; take a look at Chicago. Without the police, who risk their lives every day, there would be murderous chaos.
There is nothing racist in the constitution. Essentially it was framed to protect all the people from an alien, undemocratic form of government; hence the 2nd Amendment. These celebrity superstars would seem to be aiding and abetting such a government to assume power by tearing down the nation state of America. They are clearly intent on causing racial division and devaluing all that the constitution stands for. They need to wake up and realise there is a patriotic new sheriff in town. The policies of the previous administration to divide and destroy the country are over. They also should realise that had history been different they could still be in Africa living a very different lifestyle. As American citizens they owe their allegiance to the United States with its flag and anthem. America is not going to change for them so they have a choice: show respect or leave.
The NFL should teach these misguided infantile celebrities to respect the police who provide their security and honour the constitution that allows their freedom. Otherwise they’ll be playing their games to empty stands.
