Civilisation can survive killers, but not traitors within

Civilisation can survive killers, but not traitors within

Re: “Prescription for angry quack: one day of household chores “, Have Your Say, December 5.

Mrs Watters’ letter was a refreshing and pertinent expression of truth and objectivity bordering on the hilarious, in stark contrast to its torturous and uncivil target.
The Frankfurt School, as represented by the good Doctor in this column, is unrelenting in its destructive attitude to politeness and respect. It is an entity of bitterness and anger that wishes to impose a philosophy alien to our Christian culture and civilisation. Sad, indeed.
In contrast are respectful and truth-speaking writers here like JC Wilcox, Nigel Pike, Alf Haupt and others, who echo the point made so perfectly by Roman thinker Marcus Tullius Cicero:
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”
Let’s just hope that Have Your Say continues to be an open forum of expression.
