Why the Nobel Peace Prize is not a worthless bauble

Why the Nobel Peace Prize is not a worthless bauble

Re: “The Israeli success story in numbers”, Have Your Say, yesterday.

Tikfetzu Lee praises Israel’s superiority and writes, “Israelis have won 12 Nobel prizes, which equals the number of Nobel winners in all the 50 Muslim countries combined (seven of those 50 are for peace).”
May I ask why Mr Lee had to specifically note that seven prizes won by the 50 Muslim countries were for peace? Is the Nobel Peace Prize won by drawing names from a fish bowl, and thus meaningless to you? Is it supposed to be shameful to win the peace prize? Is that why you didn’t mention that three of the 12 Israelis won for peace, too?
To me, world peace is more important than behavioural economics, or gravitational waves, or cryo-electron microscopy, or circadian rhythms. People don’t get killed or maimed because Higgs boson wasn’t discovered.
