L’Oreal’s For Women in Science programme spreads its wings

L’Oreal (Thailand), with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), continues its “For Women in Science” programme in 2018, with the 16th edition focusing as ever on supporting Thai female researchers.

Applications are now being invited for this year’s programme, which sees modifications to the categories.
Professor Dr. Yongyuth Yuthavong, honorary board member of L’Oreal Thailand’s For Women in Science said: “In response to today’s global trends and in line with the intentions of the programme’s honorary board to push Thai female researchers to showcase their works at the international level, this year the funding more comprehensively covers all fields of science and aligns them with the international funding of the programme. We hope that this modification will help encourage Thai female researchers to enjoy wider support from the programme and have the chance to earn recognition at the international level, making the Thai science profession proud.”
In 2018, the funding category will be divided into two groupings – Physical Sciences and Life Sciences.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of L’Oreal ‘For Women in Science’ fellowship programme internationally, the L’Oreal Foundation has established the For Women in Science Academy, an online learning platform to support and promote the business and social skills of past recipients of fellowships worldwide. The platform has as its objectives to help leverage female fellows’ work in their fields and research presentation, to follow the progress of the past fellows’ research and to create a strong network for women fellows across the world.
“Moreover, for past recipients of fellowships, this year Thailand becomes first country in Asia to have the chance to use the For Women in Science Academy. We will continue L’Oreal Thailand ‘For Women in Science’ to help support Thai female researchers to work and conduct research that will be of further benefit to the country,” says Onanong Pratakphiriya, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs director, L'Oreal Thailand.
The online learning platform is designed to enhance the skills of participating fellows in the areas of management, empowerment, communication and tutorials. The platform currently features more than 170 online content components on how to develop talent and colleagues, how to manage conflicts and break through invisible barriers, how to manage leadership, how to find inspiration and vision for research, digital communication, scientific social tools and guidelines for publishing research.
L’Oreal Thailand’s ‘For Women in Science 2018 will offer not more than five grants each to the tune of Bt250,000. Interested applicants must be Thai female researchers aged between 25 and 40 years who work in the categories of Physical Sciences and Life Sciences.
