Thai politicians serve own interest, not public’s 

Re: “Suthep breaks his promise, returns to active politics”, News, June 4.

Thailand’s political arena in the past three decades were dominated by politicians who serve not the general public but their self interests. You have those who enter politics as a political arm of a family business empire, who will eventually become a minister that hands down policies to benefit their family’s interests. 
You have those who are being prosecuted or indicted, who need to enter politics to become an insider, to wield their power and connections to find a way out of their wrongdoing. 
And most of all, there are those who treat the job as a way to enhance their personal fortune and power.
