Life in jail with no parole preferable

Life in jail with no parole preferable

Although I’ve been a lifelong opponent of the death penalty, my opposition is not as strong as it used to be.

Remember those men in India who raped, tortured and murdered that woman in a van? One of those men in prison was gloating that the woman got what she deserved. If I thought there was any chance that man would ever go free, I would volunteer to literally put the rope around his neck and hang that piece of garbage myself.
Still, the problem with the death penalty is that an innocent person might get executed for a crime he didn’t commit. Or even if some people on death row are not totally innocent, they may not deserve to be executed. So here is my compromise:
Why not pass a bill abolishing the death penalty as long as there are guarantees that certain heinous criminals will automatically get life imprisonment without the possibility of parole? Of course we’ll have to define “heinous”, but clearly that dirtbag in India fits the bill.
