Some supporters are suspect

Some supporters are suspect

It isn’t much of a surprise to discover who the supporters of judicial murder are here. As long as it isn’t them or any of their loved ones guilty – or innocent – who is staring at the noose, rifle or needle, that’s obviously all right then.

Some of them are quite possibly Christians, some Buddhists, some Muslims, atheists and so on. Some might possibly believe in the old adage “an eye for an eye”, whilst conveniently ignoring “thou shalt not kill” and “vengeance is mine, I will repay, sayeth the Lord”.
It’s interesting to note, too, that some of these souls support a punishment system widely practised in the despotic Middle East, by those they purport to hate the most. Hypocrisy? Make your own mind up. They also have a mutual dislike of democracy, I note.
It will doubtless come as no further surprise that I am solidly anti-capital punishment; innocent people, usually the powerless, are executed because they don’t have money, expensive lawyers, status or influence.
My brother, ever the blunt Yorkshireman, asked me what should be done with proven murderers. My view? Lock them up for life, make them work to pay their keep – no work, basic bread and water rations and a bare cell to remind them where they are and why until they see sense.
OK, it’s not perfect, but it beats punishing the families of murderers, who have done nothing wrong. If one of mine were the victim of murder before the cheap comments start, I would not budge one inch and I really don’t care what pro-execution people think.
