Have Your Say getting overheated
Dr Frank is hypocritical when he says he would write polite letters if everyone else did the same. Look at the vicious way he attacked Jenny Moxham, who didn’t attack anyone and simply noted the atrocities committed by the meat and dairy industries.
Because Dr Frank couldn’t dispute her arguments – which is what respectful debate is supposed to be about – he attacked her personally. (Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I find it particularly disgust?ing to be disrespectful to a woman.)
I’ve written my share of nasty letters, but I believe my nastiness was justified. And, as I’ve noted before, it doesn’t matter when I write polite letters or even flatter my critics, they are always just as nasty and mean-spirited in response.
These days nastiness is the norm in political debate. Maybe that’s not pleasant, but as Harry Truman used to say, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
