Thailand needs to work on making its beaches safer

Thailand needs to work on making its beaches safer

I have lived in Thailand for the last nine years. I am a sea and river kayaker, BCU trained, and have kayaked all over the world and in the Gulf of Thailand and around all the lovely islands in the Andaman.

The problem in Thailand is no one is trained properly in rescues considering all the outdoor activities that are taking place here at the moment. If you go out in the United Kingdom in a kayak on trips, you notify the coastguard on your trip and take flares etc. If you put up a flare in Thailand nothing would happen. Also on the beaches, there are no lifeguards – especially where rip currents occur from time to time.
My Thai wife said these poor Chinese people did not have their buoyancy aids clipped up between their legs and the aids went over their heads. Surely its up to the crewmembers to make sure these are fitted properly. There needs to be more safety training here with all the activities now taking place in our country we go on special courses for this.
