Overreaction to Serena’s outburst is ugly and sinister
The whole world seems to have come down pretty hard on Serena Williams for her angry outburst at the US Open final.
Okay, she was out of line. But she paid the penalty, which cost her the championship and a heavy fine. You see this kind of tantrum from professional athletes all the time, so why single out Williams and put her under the microscope?
It’s been over a week since the incident took place, but the character-lynching is still going on. I wonder what the reactions would be to a similar outburst from another female player, say, Caroline Wozniacki, or Eugenie Bouchard, or Maria Sharapova. Probably just a flurry of light-hearted and tolerant comments.
C’mon, give Serena a break, will you? Everyone has a bad day.
