Inside story emerges from Syria; Obama, hang your head in shame

Re: “An act of witness”, New Chapters, The Nation Weekend, September 22-23.

Syria’ s endless tragedy does not take up too much space in the world media because the media have a different agenda regarding the Middle East. A Palestinian killed while attacking Gaza’s border with Israel gets far more coverage than dozens killed in Assad’s cluster bomb or sarin gas attacks.
The memoirs of Kassem Eid, a Syrian survivor, have arrived not a moment too soon. Decent people genuinely caring for the Syrians’ tribulations under the onslaught of Assad, Putin and Iranian-backed Hezbollah now have a chance to get inside information on what has been going on.
Barack Obama’s name pops up in the book review. Obama will be remembered mostly for his ineptitude and inability to make the right decisions while it was still not too late.
Obama could have single-handedly prevented the Syrian genocide. He might have done something to be worthy of his Nobel Peace prize, which in retrospect seems like a ludicrous joke.
Another unreported aspect of Syria’s war is the fact that thousands of Syrian civilians with no other access to medical facilities – including many children wounded in the conflict or gravely ill – have been and still are being treated free of charge at Israeli hospitals. But of course you will never hear about it in a media that have clear propaganda aims.
