Don’t allow distortion, totalitarianism to cloud death penalty debate

Don’t allow distortion, totalitarianism to cloud death penalty debate

Re: The ongoing death penalty debate

The master of distortion strikes yet again! If Eric Bahrt had bothered to check Isaac Ehrlich’s analysis, referred to in my letter of October 26, or if he understood the meaning of the words “deterrent effect”, he would not have drawn the fatuous conclusion that murder convicts “would have killed seven people if they were allowed to live” – a classic case of “The World According to Bahrt”.
Dr Frank shrugs off his democratic clothing to reveal the “I know better than the people” totalitarian lurking within, and fails to address the democratic deficit in not allowing the people to decide this issue. Regarding Dr Frank’s “one is too many” argument regarding the issue of convicts “judicially murdered” and later found to be innocent, the number is minuscule, but of course will always attract more lurid headlines than the many more killed by recidivist murderers released back into society.
I stand by what I said in my original letter – let the people decide.
