Mother Nature assaulted and robbed in other ways too

Mother Nature assaulted and robbed in other ways too

Re: “Shift your viewpoint to see history’s greatest theft”, Have Your Say, November 30.

Jenny Moxham’s thought-provoking letter referring to the long list of stolen animal body parts and secretions deserves an addition. Insects also suffer at our hands. Beekeepers transport hives, often to unhealthy mono-cultured crops, which they then rob of honey from the worker bees who have specifically collected it to rear and feed their young and the colony. Silk is collected from empty cocoons left by the pupae, as they are killed in boiling water, thus leaving the cocoons intact. So even the insects suffer for human use of their honey and silk.
