After 1,400 years of intolerance, Islam needs to change

Eric Bahrt reminds me of my 5th grade English teacher. I imagine her running out of chalk and picking up a piece of Swiss cheese, her words crumbling to the floor in a smelly heap while the class prays for the janitor’s arrival to make things bearable again.
Eric says he has seen examples firsthand of Muslims assimilating well in non-Muslim countries.
Apparently he imagines his limited experience disproves the overwhelming import and recorded history of 1,400 years of Muslim intolerance, which continues to this day. 
The history of the Muslim occupation of India might be illuminating. India had to be divided in order to accommodate Muslim intolerance. Maybe a lesson closer to home would serve. Ask whether the Thais want Muslims to leave Thailand for Malaysia, or whether the Muslims want Thais to give up part of Thailand so Thais won’t be senselessly murdered anymore?
Muslims are tolerated in the US because Americans are a tolerant bunch, but Muslims have nevertheless failed to assimilate. How about present-day Sweden, Norway, the UK or Europe? Negligible integration and massive unrest are the norm wherever there is an intersection between Islam and other cultures. It has always been this way, because intolerance is enshrined in the Koran.
Muslims must always be treated with compassion and tolerance, while simultaneously and resolutely requiring them to behave in the same manner toward non-Muslims. To assimilate they must accept this demand without reservation. This is the challenge of the Muslim diaspora and defines the necessary reformation of Islam.
