The impossibility of forgetting Thaksin

Vint Chavala reminds me of a compulsive gambler (in a joke) who announced that he had given up gambling. When no one believed him he blurted out, “You wanna bet?”
Funny though, it’s Vint who keeps droning on and on about a man named Thaksin, loyally following every move he makes, dutifully reporting details of his daughter’s wedding, and at the same time intoning the mantra, “Thaksin’s gone and forgotten.”
But who is Thaksin, anyway?
