Atheists still owe us an explanation

Christian Knottone writes that atheists simply don’t believe in God, and do not claim to have the answers about nature and evolution. Oh, really?
I was recently reading a book by an atheist who was asked how intelligence evolved. He responded that nature knew higher mammals needed it so it gave them intelligence.
Do the atheists realise how moronic they sound? If they don’t believe in intelligent design, then how can they believe that nature had enough intelligence to design us? This is idiotic!
It’s one thing to be an agnostic and say you don’t know if there is a God. But when atheists say they know there is no God or supernatural force then they have an obligation to give us an alternative explanation of what brought nature and evolution into being in the first place.
