I would like to respond to Tracee Tromp’s letter published on May 30 in the “Have Your Say” section and titled “A plea to Australia, Thailand for aid in retrieving ‘kidnapped’ girl”.

The Embassy appreciates the distress that child custody matters cause, especially if they hinge on lengthy legal proceedings in foreign jurisdictions. For privacy and legal reasons, I cannot comment on any specific case. What I can say is that the Embassy always has the interests of children foremost in mind and provides extensive consular assistance whenever this is called for.
