Bed-hopping Donald Trump vs book-loving Lee Kuan Yew
Re: “Secret of great leadership? Trump has it and so did Lee Kuan Yew”, Have Your Say, June 18.
I was amazed to read JC Wilcox’s article citing similarities between Donald Trump and Lee Kuan Yew.
Lee was bright and graduated with flying colours from Cambridge. Trump is a self-proclaimed “stable genius”, with an undisputed flair in marketing himself.
As a trained lawyer Lee was clear and precise in what he said. Trump speaks like Alec Baldwin in the “Saturday Night Live” show.
Lee was studious. He learned and mastered Mandarin late in his career. Trump has admitted he “doesn’t have the time” to read books and, according to Michael Wolff’s book “Fire and Fury”, reads little of anything.
Lee built Singapore from an old seaport into a top-notch nation. Trump built his business with a million dollars given to him by his father and has bankrupted his business four times in 25 years.
Lee had a single marriage that lasted for six decades. Trump has had several marriages and multiple relations with other women, including the infamous scandal with porn star Stormy Daniels.
Lee was a determined, consistent and respected leader throughout his career while Donald Trump creates disruption and asserts it is necessary to be unpredictable as president.
I doubt if Lee Kuan Yew, were he alive, would regard JC’s comparison as a compliment.
