Originally made with rice flour and coconut milk, this dessert got its twist 80 years ago from a Chinese vendor near the ‘Singapore’ theatre in Yaowarat. Using tapioca flour, it became an instant hit with moviegoers and was dubbed ‘Lod Chong Singapore,’ a name that stuck even after the theatre was renamed.
