A gas tank explosion in the Rayong-based Xin Ke Yuan Steel Co Ltd factory on Wednesday morning took one life and left several others injured.

The blast, which occurred at around 9.40am, had trapped some workers inside the factory building.

First responders arrived quickly and the blaze was brought under control by 11.30am. Seven injured workers were rushed to hospital.
Investigation is being conducted to find the cause of the explosion, with the authorities exploring the possibility of a chemical reaction.
