Violence continued to beset the deep south province of Narathiwat on Monday night with a Thai-Muslim man killed and another seriously injured in a late night ambush.
Police found the bullet-riddled body of Matorheh E-tae, 33, next to a motorcycle on a road Tohdeng village in Sungai Padi district.
Another man, identified as Adinun Yusoh, 19, was seriously injured in the attack and was sent to Sungai Padi Hospital. He was later transferred to Sungai Kolok Hospital due to his serious condition.
The initial investigation showed that Matorheh and Adinun were heading to Tambon Paluru on the motorcycle when an unknown number of assailants emerged from a roadside rubber plantation firing M-16 rifles.
Matorheh died at the scene.
