With effect from next Monday, Thais will be able to visit and stay in Japan for 15 days without a visa, the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok announced Tuesday.
The relaxing of the immigration rule is aimed at promoting bilateral relations.
Those who want to stay longer are still required to apply for a visa. However, those who want to enjoy the privilege still have to get approval from immigration officials at a Japanese entry point.
The embassy said immigration officials could ask for necessary information and documents such as return ticket before granting approval.
