Town protests against site of garbage power plant

ABOUT 100 people from Chiang Rak Yai in Pathum Thani province lodged a petition to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday against a plan to set up a garbage power plant in their hometown.

“The chosen site is not appropriate for many reasons. It’s too close to a raw-water plant of the Provincial Waterworks Authority,” Acting Second Lieutenant Taweesak Insawang said as the group’s leader. “It’s also too near water sources, communities and even hospitals.”
He said his group was not against development of the garbage power plant, which is in line with government policy.
