Temple followers lodge complaint

Dhammakaya Temple followers yesterday lodged a complaint against Phra Buddha Isara on suspicion he might have planted troublemakers inside the temple’s compound.

During a media interview, Phra Buddha Isara – a former co-leader of the now-defunct People’s Democratic Reform Committee – admitted that someone had spied for him at Dhammakaya Temple.
“We are worried about this. We are afraid that someone might have sneaked in and caused trouble,” Ongart Thamnita said yesterday in his capacity as the spokesman for Dhammakaya Temple followers.
The temple has generated much controversy for encouraging financial donations and sheltering its abbot, Phra Dhammachayo. This abbot is facing an arrest warrant for alleged money-laundering and accepting ill-gotten gains in relation to the massive embezzlement at the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative.
Phra Dhammachayo has repeatedly failed to answer Department of Special Investigation summonses, claiming that he is too ill to do so.
The DSI wants Phra Dhammachayo to undergo a check-up by neutral doctors. The Medical Council is willing to provide the doctors for that.
Ongart said his group would have to see details about the medical team and seek permission from Phra Dhammachayo before the check-up could take place.
