Temple followers wanted

POLICE yesterday vowed to hunt down ever person who blocked the arrest of Dhammakaya Temple abbot Phra Dhammachayo on June 16.

“There are many more suspects for whom arrest warrants have not yet been issued but we will gather evidence to ensure they face legal actions too,” Klong Luang Police Station superintendent Colonel Khemapat Phopitak said yesterday.
He spoke a day after Thanyaburi Court approved arrest warrants for 19 suspects for allegedly staging a rally at Dhammakaya Temple to thwart the arrest of the monk.
Phra Dhammachayo is wanted on charges of money laundering and accepting ill-gotten gains in connection alleged embezzlement at the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative.
Since the scandal broke, the controversial abbot has not responded to summonses by the Department of Special Investigation.
The DSI failed to arrest the abbot after a huge number of his supporters gathered at Dhammakaya Temple that day.
When the DSI announced it would arrest Phra Dhammachayo, barbed razor wire was erected at the temple. Khemapat said due to his role as the temple’s abbot, Phra Dhammachayo would also be charged with having barbed wire – a controlled item – in his possession.
