3 people injured in two shootings in Pattani

Three people were wounded in two separate shooting attacks in Pattani’s Ma Yor and Khok Pho districts on Thursday night.

In the Ma-Yor incident, an official from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and a local were wounded in an ambush in Tambon La Nga at 10.30pm.
In the Khok Pho incident, which occurred around the same time, two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at 10 young Muslim men having a meal at a house near the Nurudin mosque following a religious activity. Dailamee Jehmaming, 17, was shot in the leg.
Police suspect that both incidents were part of the ongoing unrest in the region.
In a related development, deputy national police chief General Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul, who visited the region yesterday, urged local police heads to dispatch officers to gather intelligence in villages ahead of tomorrow’s referendum to head off potential violent incidents.
He also released details of a recent pre-referendum crime-prevention operation that resulted in 31 people being arrested for gun offences and the seizure of 33 guns, three explosives and 341 bullets. Fourteen gambling and 421 drug suspects were also arrested.
