Govt approaches Pokemon Go developer

THAILAND is trying to remove Pokestops from its religious and historical sites, government offices and other sensitive spots.

Pokestops are part of the now hugely popular smartphone game, Pokemon Go.
Its players usually gather around Pokestops in search of virtual monsters.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) yesterday asked Niantic Inc, the US-based developer of the game, by email for cooperation in clearing Pokestops from four types of areas.
The areas are: railroad and waterway zones, religious and historical sites, government offices, and private property.
“We expect to get a response next week,” said Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the NBTC.
Some other countries have also made such a request, he said.
The regulator also issued a memo barring its staff from playing Pokemon Go at the office.
“Visitors are not allowed to play the game in our compound,” he added.
