An elderly man who lost a purse containing all his family savings of Bt15,000 in Buri Ram province has received nearly Bt1.3 million in donations.

Pan Paewphonsong, 72, received the money just days after he was spotted looking for the purse in front of Buri Ram Hospital.

Pan went to the hospital with his six-year-old granddaughter to renew her card for a person with physical disabilities, which entitles her to a monthly subsidy from the government.

“I would like to thank everyone for helping my family. I have received enough money to fix my house and support my family now,” Pan said yesterday.

“I hope other underprivileged people will also receive such assistance.”

Local police and the manager of a local bank have promised to help Pan manage the money, out of concern that people may try to cheat him.
