Centre set up to monitor drones during Cremation period
Air Force Chief ACM Chom Rungsawang on Thursday said that his office has set up an anti-drone centre to monitor use of drones during the Royal Cremation ceremony at the request of a joint command for the Royal Cremation of the late King.
The centre would put up a sensor system and deploy preventive appliances or “air guards” to monitor use of drones during the ceremony, he said.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand has issued a complete ban on launching drones during the ceremony scheduled, between October 25-28 at the Crematorium venue in Sanam Luang.
Chom said that the only legal drones are those registered with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission and CAAT, and are operated only to take still photos or videos for news reports. Their operation would be closely monitored by relevant authorities to ensure drones remain within the permitted zone.
He was speaking after presiding over a religious rites ceremony at a replica of the Royal Crematorium set up at Tupatemi Air Force Stadium in Pathum Thani province.
Replicas have been erected in every province across the country so that people are able to join in the cremation ceremonies for the late king, to be held in Bangkok on October 26.
Chom said that the construction of the replica at the stadium is almost complete. The site’s area will be reconfigured to accommodate more than 100,000 people.
