Bhutan to host Buddhist prayer ceremony in honour of Thailand’s late King

Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has ordered that a prayer ceremony for HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the beloved late King of Thailand, be hosted in the Bhutan capital of Thimpu on October 26.

The Chief Abbot of Bhutan will conduct the ceremony, said King Jigme’s media office.  Thai expats living and working in Bhutan, as well Thai tourists who are in the capital on that day, are invited to join the ceremony.
October 26 is the date of the official Royal Cremation of the late King in Bangkok.
King Jigme and Queen Jetsun Pema will attend the Royal Cremation in Bangkok during their October 25 to 27 stay in Thailand, the spokesman said.
The Royal families of Thailand and Bhutan are said to be close. The Bhutanese King and Queen visited Bangkok on October 16 last year to pay respects to the late King, who passed away on October 13, 2016.
