The Nakhon Ratchasima school director accused of having had an intimate relationship with a 14-year-old student met with police on Wednesday morning.

Nathapop Boonthongtho, 51, director of Ban Patong Thanoen Samakkee School in Bua Yai district, appeared cheerful as he arrived with his lawyer in response to a police summons.

Nathapop, who has been suspended from duty pending a disciplinary investigation, was formally charged with “taking a minor under 15 away from his or her parent or guardian for a lewd act” as well as libel.

The latter charge stems from a threat allegedly made against the son of the woman who first accused Nathapop in public, producing Line chat messages.

The son, who attends Mathayom 3, is the former boyfriend of the unnamed schoolgirl.

Nathapop denied the charges and vowed to fight the accusations in court, said his lawyer Sunthorn Saeng-arun. Police also appointed Nathapop to give additional information early March, he added.

Police said he has not yet been charged as expected with raping a minor under 15 because more evidence was needed.
