‘Golden bell’ to keep police officers awake in Region 1

‘Golden bell’ to keep police officers awake in Region 1

In a move to keep police officers awake and alert during duty hours, Provincial Police Region 1 acting chief Pol Maj-General Ampol Buarapporn has ordered that a bell be rung every hour at all 134 precincts under his jurisdiction.

On Monday, Ampol led senior police officers to witness the implementation of the bell-ringing project dubbed “Rakhang Thong” (golden bell) in Nonthaburi’s Muang district. Officers were seen ringing the bell, installed in front of the precinct’s building, every hour at a volume that could only be heard within the premises.
The acting chief has also instructed officers to take frequent walks around the premises to ensure order and keep an eye on the detained suspects.
Ampol also inspected the progress of another project called “Pak Krod”, under which police officers are required to gather information, analyse issues and set a guideline for the prevention of drug-trafficking and other crimes. Officers are also required to keep an eye out for drug-abusers and take them in for rehabilitation.
The police chief also led the team to visit Wat Nakhon In in Muang district and the Prasert Islam community in Pak Kret district to follow up on the project.
